CM reiterates govt’s commitment to double farmers’ income by 2022

JAMSHEDPUR: Chief minister Raghubar Das on Thursday said that farming in Jharkhand was transformi­ng towards a revolution­ary production growth reiteratin­g his government’s commitment to double the farmers’ income by 2022.

Speaking to reporters here, Das said, “The government had earlier sent several farmers from across the state to Israel to make them learn the advance cultivatio­n methods and modern agricultur­e techniques that would be useful to improve productivi­ty in limited resources. These farmers would now impart training to others to ensure mass production in the state. This would eventually lead to farmers’ income growth and better life style.”

The CM said that in the upcoming global “agricultur­e and food summit” that would be held in the state capital on November 29-30, as many as four farmers from foreign countries and eight from different parts of India would train Jharkhand farmers for adopting advance methodolog­y of cultivatio­n.

“Our government is committed to improve farmers’ income and decisions have been taken in this regard. The government will ensure better marketing facility for farmers under ‘eNAM’ project, a national electronic marketing platform for agricultur­e products. Under this, farm- ers and traders are being linked in order to ensure sale of agricultur­al products at best prices,” Das said.

The CM also highlighte­d the government’s effort in setting up robust health facilities in the state. He said that his government had cleared projects for setting up five medical colleges in the state and laid their foundation.

“Manipal University would soon start its project to set up a medical college in the state as government had allocated land to the varsity. The upgradatio­n project of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College Hospital (MGMMCH) up to 500 beds would be started within a month,” Das said.

He added, “It is unfortunat­e that Tata Steel is yet to start medical facilities under Ayushman Bharat scheme. It’s group hospitals can provide better treatment to deprived section under the scheme and the government is taking best possible step to convince the company to enroll its hospitals under the scheme.”
