Police yet to arrest named accused in murder case

RANCHI: Four days after notorious criminal Sonu Imroj was shot dead near Daily Market on Sunday, police are yet to arrest any accused.

Police had registered FIR on Tuesday against 13 people, all from Hindpiri.

“All accused are absconding. We are conducting raids to nab the culprits. Prima facie, the motive appears to be internal rivalry among gang members,” said Daily Market police station officer in-charge Rajdeva Prasad.

Police said they had made some headway in identifyin­g the four unnamed accused, but no arrests were made. CCTV footage of the place where the incident happened was blurred, owing to which police had no clinching evidence about the accused.

Prasad said Sonu’s father Abdul Gaffar, of Nizam Nagar in Hindpiri, had registered the case. Quoting the FIR Prasad said, there were 9 named person and 4 unknown people in the list of the accused. Mohammad Shamsad alias Chepta, Mohammad Shamsher, Mohammad Gugun, Mohammad Jabeer, Chamda Chotu, Mohammad Shams Tabrej alias Dilip, Karu Lulha, DC Guddu and Mohammad Arshad were among the named accused, he said.

As per the FIR, Prasad said, Shamsad , Shamsher, Chotu and Guddu had shot dead Imroj. They later escaped brandishin­g their weapons.

According to FIR, on Sunday around 2.15pm Imroj had reached Daily Market chowk, and was talking to Tabrej, when the latter took him near the taxi stand. The deceased’s father along with his brother Imran and her wife Yasmeen were also present near the stand, it said.

Meanwhile, the named accused reached the spot and engaged in a scuffle with Imroj. Soon after Shamsad and others shot dead Imroj, the FIR said.

The FIR said that Imroj’s father along with his brother and wife were eyewitness to the crime, and the accused had also threatened to kill them.

The OC said Imroj received 5 bullet injuries in his head and chest. The deceased was wanted in 28 cases of murder, loot and extortion.
