Chowkidar among six killed in separate incidents in Bihar

PATNA:: Six people were killed in separate incidents within 24 hours — from Wednesday to Thursday morning — in Patna, Vaishali, Gaya, Lakhisarai and Bhagalpur districts of Bihar.

Suspected Maoists shot dead a chowkidar at Regania village in Amas police station area of Gaya district late on Wednesday night. Police said suspected CPI (Maoist) extremists raided the house of chowkidar Rajeshwar Paswan, 45, forced him to accompany them and gunned him down near a canal.

Police said that some Maoist pamphlets were recovered from the spot, besides empty cartridges of sophistica­ted weapons. His body had been sent to Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College Hospital in Gaya for autopsy, the police said, adding that a massive manhunt was on to nab the assailants.

In another incident, unidentifi­ed criminals shot dead a brick kiln owner at Katehar village in Suryagarh police station area of Lakhisarai district. Police said the outlaws shot at brick kiln owner Vipin Yadav, 35, at his business establishm­ent, leaving him seriously injured. He was admitted to Suryagarh primary health centre, where he died during treatment. Infuriated over the murder, local people on Thursday forced businessme­n to down the shutters and blocked the main road.

In Patna, two people were shot dead in separate incidents. Unidentifi­ed criminals killed a man at Aunta village in Hatidah police station area of rural Patna while he sleeping on the terrace of his house. Two suspects had been detained for interrogat­ion. In another incident, Dhanesh Choudhary, 28, was gunned down at Kanchanpur village in Fatuha police station area.

Patna senior superinten­dent of police (SSP) Manu Maharaaj said the reason behind the two incidents seemed to be property dispute. Raids were on to nab the culprits, he said.

Reports from Bhagalpur said unidentifi­ed criminals slit the throat of Beni Yadav at Mohanpur in Goradih police station area. Yadav died on the spot.

In Vaishali district, a 35-yearold man was shot dead over a land dispute at Jethuli village in Hajipur industrial police station area on Wednesday night.

The incident took place when family members of the victim, identified as Rakesh Chaurasia, were busy in Diwali celebratio­ns.

Police said Chaurasia was shot at in his head allegedly by his neighbour Lallan Chaudhary over a land dispute. Chaurasia was immediatel­y rushed to the Hajipur sadar hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Enraged over the murder, hundreds of locals blocked the Hajipur-Patna Road, demanding immediate arrest of the killer.

Vaishali superinten­dent of police MS Dhillon said: “Lallan Chaudhary has been named as accused in the FIR by family members of the victim. A probe is on to ascertain whether the accused was present at spot at the time of murder, he said.

SIX INJURED IN THREE SEPARATE INCIDENTS

At least four people were injured when two groups at Belaua village in Rajgir police station area in Nalanda district. Police said Mohan Chaurasia and his relative Bhushan Chaurasia along with their supporters clashed over a land dispute.

They rival groups fired at each other, leaving Mohan and Bhushan injured. Police said Mohan`s son Vikas and another person, identified as Pankaj Kumar, also sustained injuries.

In another incident, armed criminals shot at a man at Kolhua locality of Ahiyapur police station in Muzaffarpu­r. The injured was identified as Rakesh, police said, adding that the reason behind the incident was yet to be ascertaine­d.

At Bidupur in Vaishali district, a minor, identified as Prashant Kumar, was shot at allegedly by his neighbor during a scuffle between two families. The injured has been admitted to sadar hospital, while accused fled from the spot.
