RANCHI: Congress workers led by party leader Alamgir Alam protested outside the office of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on the second anniversary of demonetisation of Rs 500 and 1000 currency notes.

Earlier, party workers led by Ranchi Congress president Sanjay Pandey marched from party office to the RBI office, burning effigies of the Prime Minister and the finance minister, dubbing demonetisation as a disaster.

“November 8, 2016 would be remembered as a black day in history. Common citizens were harassed in the name of weeding out black money from the economy. However, the Narendra Modi government got exposed and people would give a befitting reply in near future,” said Alam.

Hitting out at the Centre, Ranchi Congress president Sanjay Pandey said the country is still reeling under the adverse impact of the move that proved to be a disaster.

The state BJP leaders, however, reacted sharply to the developments, saying the Congress was protesting demonetisation as its leaders lost all of their ‘ill-gotten’ money.

“The Congress was affected the maximum due to demoneti- sation as their black money turned into paper overnight. The party was hit financially and is still so desperate about the move. As far as the success of the move is concerned, the basic objective was to bring the black money circulating into the economy into the banking system which was fulfilled,” said Jharkhand BJP spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo.
