PATNA : Upping the ante, Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP) chief and Union minister Upendra Kushwaha on Friday said anyone could become the chief minister of Bihar after the 2020 Bihar assembly elections.

BENGALURU: Karnataka coalition government’s move to celebrate the Jayanti of Tipu Sultan – a contentious ruler of the erstwhile Mysuru kingdom – has run into another controversy.

Friday’s event, which is being supported by the ruling Congress – JD(S) coalition, was said to be marked with a function at Vidhana Soudha, the seat of power in the state. However, it has now emerged that the chief minister H D Kumaraswamy will miss the event due to ill health and the deputy CM G Paramaeshwara who belongs to the Congress party is likely to inaugurate it.

The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party and other Sangh Parivar affiliates have opposed the celebrations claiming that Tipu was a religious bigot and carried out pogroms against Hindus. Former Deputy CM and senior BJP leader R Ashoka claimed that while they would welcome celebration of leaders like former President A P J Abdul Kalam or Saint Sishunala Sharief “it would be better if Kumaraswamy realizes that whoever has celebrated Tipu Jayanti has lost power.”

However, Dinesh Gundu Rao, the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Comittee president said that there was no difference of opinion between JDS and his party and that they were on the ssame page on celebrating Tipu Jayanti.
