JAMSHEDPUR: A class 11 student allegedly attempted suicide at school hostel in Seraikela-Kharsawan district on Thursday.

She was rushed to Tata Main Hospital (TMH) in Jamshedpur even as the police are yet to reveal reason behind the attempt.

The girl, a student of Jawahar Navoday Vidyalay under Rajnagar police station, had been missing after the morning exercise session in the school campus on Thursday.

Her room was found closed from inside.

When other students peeped through the window, they saw the girl hanging from the ceiling fan with the help of her scarf and struggling with suffocation.

After the police and her parents were informed, the girl was rushed to Tata Main Hospital for treatment.

Officer-in-charge of Rajnagar police station Jitendra Kumar Singh said, “We have questioned school teachers, staff and students, but none could reveal the reason behind the attempt. We are waiting to let the girl become physically and mentally fit for a statement.”

Upon being informed, the girl’s family members, who live in Chaibasa of West Singhbhum district, also rushed to the hospital.

They too were clueless about a possible reason for that could have driven the girl to take the extreme step.

School sources said the girl was brilliant in studies, was prompt in submitting class work and focused in academic work.

Her friends and others also had not noticed any abnormal changes in her behaviour during the cent days.
