DC orders closure of pvt hostel, asks SSP to probe warden’s role in sexual abuse of minor
JAMSHEDPUR: East Singhbhum deputy commissioner (DC) Amit Kumar on Friday ordered closure of privately run Sukanya Girl’s Hostel in Parsudih locality of Jamshedpur with immediate effect.
The hostel warden’s relative was accused of sexually abusing a 6-year-old girl residing in the hostel. The incident took place on October 24.
The DC also directed the Jamshedpur senior superintendent of police (SSP) Anoop Birthare to investigate the complicity of hostel warden in the alleged sexual abuse.
“I have ordered immediate closure of the hostel on the basis of inquiry report submitted by additional district magistrate (ADM, law and order) and district superintendent of education (DSE). It doesn’t have required permission from the state education department,” Kumar said on Friday evening.
Police had arrested the accused, relative of the warden, under POCSO Act after East Singhbhum child welfare committee (CWC) investigation had prima-facie found the allegations true and detected rampant irregularities in the hostel.
The hostel management has failed to submit the documents and evidence to the probe team till date. The report has recommended closure of the hostel and action against the warden.
The CWC team led by its chairperson Pushpa Rani Tirkey had visited the hostel on October 25 and 26 but the hostel warden couldn’t produce any document.
She (the warden) had told CWC team that documents were with the school principal. While the principal told that the documents were with the hostel warden. The principal had also admitted to CWC that the school or the hostel was not registered with any government department.
