FIR filed in death of Giridih student
RANCHI: A week after the death of a 20-year-old college student in Giridih district, the Pachamba police on Sunday night registered a murder case against unidentified people.
“Prima facie, it appears to be a case of honour killing. Though her parents claimed that she had committed suicide by jumping into a well, we have registered a murder case,” said deputy superintendent of police Santosh Kumar Mishra.
A police official said Sanjana Kumari, a resident of Pethiyatand, was a third-year college student and worked as a teacher. According to the statements of her father Anil Ram, she had committed suicide on December 4. The next day, her parents fished out her body, and cremated her without informing police. After some neighbours informed police, an inquiry was conducted, the official said.
Police did not find any evidence or equipment which suggested that the body was hauled out of the well, the official added.
Her friends told police that Kumar was in a relationship against the wishes of her parents, a second police official said.
Police were checking call records of Kumari to ascertain the identity of the man with whom she was in a relationship.
