Admission delay hits schedule of varsities
DHANBAD: Delay in completion of Post Graduate (PG) and Under Graduate (UG) admission process has derailed the plan to streamline the academic session in state universities, causing anger and worry among the students.
As per the academic calendar, all state universities are required to complete the admission process for PG and UG courses by July-August and hold first semester examination in December. But students said the admission process is yet to be completed.
Till December 7, only 50% students managed to secure admission in Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKU) Dhanbad, Sido Kanhu Murmu University (SKMU), Dumka, and Kolhan University (KU), Chaibasa. Students attribute the delay to the introduction of online admission system. The government has for the first time started centralised online admission process for UG and PG courses in state universities through Chancellor Portal which publishes list of selected students for each universities online.
Upset by the slow functioning of the Chancellor Portal, SKMU vice-chancellor MP Sinha started an off-line facility for submission of admission forms for those students whose names did not figure online. Dean of Students Welfare (DSW), BBMKU, S K Sinha on Monday admitted that due to delay in admission, academic session was affected. But, he said, the university has set up an admission cell to complete admission process within a week.
“Main reason for the delay in admission process was a sudden change of Chancellor Portal team at Ranchi. It caused a communication gap. However, a new team of Chancellor Portal has streamlined the system,” said Sinha.
However, an official of Chancellor Portal held students responsible for the delay. The official said that since the students of different universities had uploaded wrong data in their applications.
