Docs on stir may face action for marking present
DHANBAD : Government doctors may face action for skipping Outpatient Department (OPD) duty at hospitals for joining 24-hour agitation after making attendance.
The doctors on Monday joined the strike call given by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Monday in protest against the assault on doctors in West Bengal.
At most of the government hospitals including all three medical colleges doctors made their presence through biometry attendance and signature on register but did not attend OPD.
“Authorities of medical colleges and civil surgeons (CSs) of the districts would be directed to send the names of such doctors who marked their attendance but not joined duty,” said a health department official, who requested not to be quoted as he was not authorised to speak to media.
A senior official of state health department said that government has taken serious note over some doctors who boycotted OPD after making attendance.

The IMA, the country’s largest body of doctors, has given call for suspension of 24-hour nonemergency medical services from 6am on Monday.
Interestingly, at Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) in Ranchi, faculty heads had on Saturday made it clear the doctors would have to take leave if they wanted to join the stir.
Doctors at PMCH in Dhanbad too made attendance and boycotted the OPD duty. “Of course, they boycotted OPD in hospital under pressure of agitating medicos but they performed indoor duty. Moreover OPD patients were not let to suffer due to the agitation. The patients were given treatment in emergency wards where teams of senior doctors were present,” said Dr HK Singh, PMCH superintendent.
