Retired cop, wife found living with dead daughter for a month
VARANASI: A retired police inspector and his wife were on Monday found living with the body of their 30-year-old unmarried daughter, who had purportedly passed away around a month ago, in Mirzapur, police said.
The police added that the matter came to light when a relative of the couple -- Dilawar Siddiqui, 65, and his wife -- came to visit them at their house in Hathiya Pathak area of Hayat Nagar in Mirzapur.
The relative then informed the neighbours, who in turn phoned up the police.
Shocked at the sight at Siddiqui’s house, police officers said foul smell had engulfed the entire house and they were surprised as to how the couple was living there. The police have sent the decomposed body of Zeenat for post mortem examination and begun an investigation into the case.
The incident brought back gloomy memories of two similar cases in Varanasi last year. Varanasi is about 60 km from Mirzapur.
Additional superintendent of police (ASP) Prakash Swaroop Pandey said, “It appears that the couple is not mentally sound. Around a fortnight back, following a complaint by Siddiqui’s neighbours about stench emanating from the house, police visited the place.”
“Siddiqui then asked the
policemen as to with what authority they wanted to check his house and did not let them inside. When he told the policemen that everything was all right, the cops then returned without checking the house,” Pandey said.
After receiving the information about the stench on Monday, police again visited Siddiqui’s house again and so matter came to light.
The couple told the cops, when they entered the house, that their daughter was alive and sleeping, Pandey said.
He said Dilawar had retired in
2015 and lived with his wife and daughter in the house.
His two sons live in other cities and police are trying to find out details about them so that they can be informed. The names of Dilawar’s wife and sons was not known as of now because the couple is not in a position to reveal further details, Pandey said.
He said that it appeared to be a natural death. However, police is probing the matter.
The neighbours told police that Siddiqui and his wife did not interact with them since many months.
