10 murdered in Bihar in a day, opposition parties slams govt

PATNA: Ten murders were reported within 18 hours in the state, prompting the opposition to blame the JD (U)-BJP government over the deteriorat­ing law and order situation.

RJD MLA Bhai Birendra said the state was witnessing a rise in serious crimes and asked whose door should be knocked for safety and security in such hours of lawlessnes­s.

In Buxar, advocate Chitranjan Singh (50) was shot dead near the civil court premises on Wednesday evening, while on his way to his residence. Singh was a resident of Sondihala village under Mufassil police station limits of Buxar district. The police said that the advocate was a suspect in two murder cases and had been jailed once.

The police are examining CCTV footage to get a clue about the suspects.

On Tuesday late night, armed assailants killed three people in separate incidents within a span of an hour in Vaishali district. A rural medical practition­er (RMP) identified as Mohammed Yunus (48) was shot dead when he was returning to his residence after closing his clinic near a rail gate at Goraul. The police said that two motorcycle­borne assailants gunned down the RMP, who died on the spot. A case had been lodged against unidentifi­ed persons with the Goraul police station.

During the same time, a mobile shop owner Rakesh Singh was gunned down at Chandralay locality under Town police station when he was on way to his residence.

Irate over the incident, locals blocked the Hajipur-Lalganj main road and disrupted vehicular traffic on Wednesday morning.

When a police team reached the spot of the incident, an angry mob pelted stones on police and damaged their vehicle.

Sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Ragav Dayal said three policemen sustained injuries and assured that the murder will be thoroughly investigat­ed.

The third incident occurred at Bahsi village under Jandaha police station area.

The victim, Sunil Rai, was shot dead by unidentifi­ed gunmen. The police suspect that a love affair could be the reason behind the murder.

In Jamui, 25-year-old Sanjay Sao was killed due to a land dispute. The incident took place at Lakshmipur Bazar. A group of assailants killed Sao with a sharp-edged weapon and sprinkled chilli powder into the eyes of his family members. The Lakshmipur police said that six assailants forcefully entered Sao’s house and killed him.

In Kaimur, school teacher Shashi Sekhar Pandey was shot dead at Khanav village under Bhabhua police station limits, when he was on way to his residence. In Siwan, a youth identified as Manoj Sah was beaten to death at Bairagipur police station limits, falling under Nautan police station area.

His wife has lodged an FIR against five people in this connection.

In Bettiah, a 15-year-old was allegedly beaten to death by a hotel owner at Rampur Nayatola village when he allegedly refused to work.

In Khagaria, 40-year-old Satto Sada was allegedly shot dead by close aide of a district board member, Bulli Singh.

The incident took place when Sada, a native of Nagar Mushari, demanded his wages.

In Madhubani, the beheaded body of a student identified as Ajit Shah was recovered.
