Health secy cracks whip on Dhanbad, Giridih hospitals
DHANBAD: Following complaints of poor health service and doctors’ absence at hospitals in Giridih and Dhanbad, health secretary Nitin Madan Kulkarni has directed civil surgeons of both the districts to take immediate action to streamline the health services.
National Health Mission (NHM) managing director Dr Shailesh Kumar Chourasia has also recommended snapping of PPP mode functioning of Giridih’s Referral Hospital Dumri and suggested immediate shifting of dilapidated CHC Topchachi (Dhanbad) in newly constructed building.
Dr Chourasia during his sudden inspection of Referral Hospital Dumri on July 27 had found X-ray room locked due to sufficient voltage and labour room was small and unhygienic. There was no clinical staff to run the hospital 24 X 7. The hospital is being run on PPP mode with Deepak Foundation but in last three months only three caesarean cases were handled that too by the doctors on call.
Only one doctor of Deepak Foundation remains present in New Born Stabilising Unit (NSBU) whose duty ends at 5 pm. “Infrastructure of hospital was found neither sufficient nor kept properly,” Dr Chaurasia has said in his report.
Rattled by poor condition of hospital, director in-chief has recommended snapping of contract with Deepak Foundation.
At Topchachi in Dhanbad, the NHM MD was surprised to find only one child (patient) in 10-bedded malnutrition treatment centre (MTC). Nurse of MTC was untrained. Hospital building of CHC was in dilapidated condition and staff quarters were abandoned.
Topchachi CHC is on National Highway-2 at nodal point between Gomoh, Isri and Rajganj and caters to emergencies due to accidents on these stretches.
“So CHC should be shifted in new building at Sahubahiyar that is lying vacant for the last 10 years and a trauma centre should be opened to deal with emergencies,” Dr Chaurasia has recommended.
NHM MD has also asked to get staff quarters of hospital evacuated from CRPF.
