AGRA: Thirty more prisoners from different jails in Jammu and Kashmir were shifted to Agra Central Jail on Thursday.

They were brought to the Kheria airport here in a special Indian Air Force (IAF) plane and were directly taken to the jail amidst tight security.

The prisoners have been lodged in the high security cells of the central jail.

These inmates were in addition to the 26 inmates brought to Agra on August 10. With the shifting of 30 more inmates on Thursday, the total number of inmates shifted to the central jail in Agra went up to 56.

Policemen were deployed all through the route from the airport to the Central Jail compound.

The windows of the vehicles by which the prisoners were brought to the Agra Central Jail were covered with black cloths as a precautionary measure.

The local administration also beefed up the security of the jail and deployed additional jawans of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) on the boundary walls.

However, district administration officials denied giving any detail about the inmates.

It may be mentioned that after abolishing Articles 370 and 35A, the Central government is shifting hardened criminals from Jammu and Kashmir jails to prisons of other states.

Recently, the additional chief secretary (Home) Awnish Awasthi also visited the central jail and reviewed security arrangements.
