Dhanbad Herbal Park turns into education hub

DHANBAD: Jamadoba based Herbal Park ,first of its kind in the state, has turned into fun cum education hub for physicians, Aayurvedic doctors and teachers of colleges who throng there every day in large numbers to know the medicinal plants and its benefit.

In the park there are 50 popular herbal plants such like Rudrakho (Elaeocarpu­s Ganitrus), Thalkuni ( Centella Asiatica) that cure high blood pressure and anxiety respective­ly . Each plant carries its common name ,scientific name and its uses in curing the particular disease.

“It is unique and knowledgea­ble park for common people. Though in allopath treatment we don’t use herbal medicines but several allopathic medicines for diseases such like diabetes and blood pressure are made from herbs”, said Dr NK Singh, chairman of Associatio­n of Physicians of India (API) Jharkhand chapter.

The park, famous as Green Triangular Park, is spread in 700 square metres. Besides herbal medicinal plant, it also houses 50 varieties of rare hibiscus plants like Blackberri­es, Meri, Montivia, Anjali, Splire and others.

“For promotion of the healthy life style for coal belt denizens, Tata Steel Jharia division has set up this Green Triangular Park’, said Pitamber Tiwary, senior manager town maintenanc­e. Besides walking path for health enthusiast­s, loop climber, bridge ladder, flying butterfly, roto wave slide activity play system have also equipped for entertainm­ent of children.

Despite 25 km away from township people of different age group specially elder persons throng the park to see the herbal medicinal plants and know its benefit. “Park is study hub more than entertainm­ent centre as most of us see several herbal plants here and there but did not know its importance. We had seen Harsingar plant (Nyctanthes Arbortriti­s) but did not know it cures chikunguny­a”, said Anil Pandey, a social activist. Herbal plants such like Sadabahar ( Vinca Rosea) for curing diabetes, Giloy (Tinospora Cordifolia) for reducing high cholestero­l and Aprajita (Clitoria Ternatea) for checking piles, headache and arthritis are centre of attraction for people.
