Property worth ₹10 lakh gutted in district board guest house fire
DHANBAD: Property worth Rs 10 lakh was gutted in an early Friday morning fire that broke out in a guest house room owned by the district board located on Luby Circular road in heart of the city.
One person, identified as Sandeep Verma, from Lucknow who was in the room at the time of incident, however, is safe. Unfortunately, all belongings of Verma including his laptop, mobile, purse and clothing’s were gutted in the fire that broke out between 4.30 to 5 am.
The fire was spotted by local ward councillor Ashok Pal who was on morning walk in a nearby park. He called fire tender that doused the fire within one hour.
Talking to media, Sandeep said, “I was allotted one room on first floor of the building for two days. Fire probablely broke out due to short circuit in air conditioner main plug and the nearby sofa also caught fire.”
Sandeep said, he lost his belongings including all the original educational certificates, laptop and all other belongings including clothing barring those he was wearing during sleep.

Sandeep was allocated the room by the district board as he was selected for post of project manager for a project that is to be financed by District Mineral Fund.
District fire officer Shailendra Kishore who had reached the spot said, it took an hour to douse off fire. Though there was no official word from district board owing to public holiday on Janamastmi, but according to our estimate, property worth around Rs 10 lakh has been gutted in the fire, he said. Fire officer further mentioned that there was not a single fire extinguisher installed in the building. Though it’s G+1 building it needed just installation of adequate numbers of fire extinguishers to deal any fire.
Ward councillor Ashok Pal said timely action by fire tenders saved the life of Sandeep.
