High alert sounded in state for a week
RANCHI: In the wake of Ayodhya verdict, chief secretary DK Tiwari on Saturday put the entire state administration on ‘high alert’ and directed district and police administration across the state to take all necessary actions to maintain law and order.
In a review meeting with the top officials and the deputy commissioners and superintendents of police of all 24 districts, the chief secretary directed not to give permission to hold any religious and social events, besides keeping a strict vigil on the social media.
With model code of conduct for assembly elections in the state in place, official sources said the state administration is not taking any chances. The district and police administration have been directed to keep a special vigil at public places, especially religious centres, railway stations and bus stands, officials said.
“Strict instruction has been given to all 24 districts to be on high alert 24X7 for the next one week. The police force has also been instructed to be ready to meet any emergency situation. No permission would be granted to hold social and religious events in the coming days,” the chief secretary said.
Officials said instruction has also been furnished to monitor social media, besides taking decision to shut schools and liquor shops as per requirement.
“A strict vigil needs to be kept on social media. Immediate action needs to be taken against any objectionable content. All efforts must also be taken to stop spread of such posts,” the chief secretary said. The meeting was attended by home secretary, director general police Kamal Nayan Chowbey, DG (headquarters) PRK Naidu, DAG Murarilal Meena, IG Naveen Kumar Singh and IG Saket Kumar Singh were present in the meeting. Taking a cue from the meeting, few districts such as Ranchi and Dumka imposed section 144, besides Giridh ordering shutting down of schools on Saturday.
