DHANBAD:Kadir Muhalla, situated on Barakar river bank in Chirkunda, around 50 km away from Dhanbad district headquarters has turned into den of dengue as two persons including a daughter of a doctor have died in seven days and over dozens are affected by the disease.

Nasreen Parveen (14), daughter of a private doctor Dr MN Ansari died during treatment in a hospital in Kolkata on Saturday evening. Her father is still under treatment in the hospital. Earlier on November 16, Rizwan Khan (45) had died in Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS), Ranchi.

Since Kadir Muhalla is on boarder of Jharkhand and West Bengal, residents prefer nearby

West Bengal hospitals than Dhanbad for treatment.

Chirkunda ward 6 councillor Md Arif said that more than two dozen residents of Kadir Muhalla have been suffering from dengue symptoms but district health department has not taken cognizance even after two deaths. Not a single doctor of CHC has visited Muhalla till date.

State health has taken serious note over reported death of second patient of Kadir Muhalla. Director in-chief health services of state cum national vector borne disease control programme (NVBDCP) nodal officer Dr VN Khanna said, civil surgeon has been directed to sent a medical team immediately at Chirkunda for attending patients and give detailed reports of disease status in 48 hours.

However, state entomologist Sagya Singh denied the death of Rizwan khan due to dengue at RIMS. She claimed that dengue is completely under control in the state.

“Reports of Rizwan Khan say he died due to high sugar infection and not from dengue complication as his platelet was over 60,000 till last”, she said.

State entomologist said Dhanbad health department has asked to screen the fever cases of Kadir Muhalla in Chirkunda and launch campaign to destroy larva in the area.
