RANCHI : Union minister Smriti Irani on Sunday urged people to press lotus button in the Jharkhand assembly polls for further development of the state.

The union minister of women and child development was in Garhwa district here to address a political rally at Ranka seeking vote for BJP’s Garhwa constituency candidate Satyendra Nath Tiwary. The constituency will go to polls in first phase on November 30.

Reading out the welfare schemes introduced by the Modi government for the poor, Irani, who is also the minister of textiles, said, “I would like to appeal people to press the lotus button for BJP candidate but for the development you have experienced in past five years. This assembly election will decide fate of state for next five years.”

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is committed for the upliftment of the poor. More than 80 schemes are undergoing only in Garhwa constituency, right from toilets to LPG connections under Ujjwala scheme.

“Earlier, poor had no toilet facility due to financial crunch. But, Modi government thought of them and constructed toilets for them. More than 11 crore toilets were constructed in India and over 70,000 were built in Garhwa constituency,” she said.

“The scheme has improved lives of poor women in Jharkhand, as they no more struggle with smoke,” Irani said.

She further said the rural people were not happy with their bank accounts under Jan-Dhan scheme.

“Ask rural people what benefit they got with the bank accounts, they would say they are receiving Rs 6,000 under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi directly to their bank accounts. Over 35 crore bank accounts were opened under the scheme in the country,” she said.
