RANCHI: CPI national secretary Atul Anjan attacked the BJP’s ‘pseudo-nationalism’ and the Modi government’s policies that have led to an economic slowdown in the country, while addressing the media at the party office here on Monday.

He said that BJP wants to win Jharkhand polls for plucking the chords of nationalism and fanning communal forces. “History is witness that the RSS has never been a part of the independence movement in the country,” he said.

Anjan was leaving for Ghatshila to campaign for CPI candidate Kanai Murmu. CPI state secretary Bhubaneswar Prasad Mehta and others members were also present during the address.

Dismissing the nationalism agenda of BJP, he reminded that Bharatiya Jan Sangh founder late Shyama Prasad Mukherjee had formed government in Bengal with the support of All India Muslim League. The CPI leader also blamed the policies of the NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the economic slowdown in the country. “The 4.5 % economic growth tells the tale which has led to unemployment”, he said.

Anjan also accused the Modi government of allegedly looting the public sector companies in order to benefit the private companies by disinvesting from the public sector undertakings to mop up 6 lakh crore in financial losses thereby designing a road map to hand over BSNL, HPCL, Indian Oil, ONGC, GAIL, PHEL, and Indian Railways to the private companies. The government first ruined BSNL which was at a ₹95,000 crore profit by encouraging private companies who lured customers with cheap call rates which has resulted in 70,000 employees to be given voluntary retirements, he underlined. Coal production has also declined by 30 %, power generation by 3.5 %, car manufacturing sector recorded a 28 % decline in production and about 10 lakh people have lost jobs, he lamented.
