Cold wave sweeps Bihar; Dehri, Forbesganj shiver at 8°Celsius
PATNA: Intense cold wave sweeping the entire state since Tuesday noon has reached a new level. The blowing icy wind on Wednesday has lowered the pollution level in the capital, besides triggering the sale of woollen clothes, blowers and room heaters.
On Wednesday, Forbesganj and Dehri were recorded the coldest places in the state, with mercury dipping to 8°C. The state capital recorded a minimum temperature of 13°C. The maximum temperature also fell at many places.
The MET officials said Dehri was coldest, as the eastern Uttar Pradesh has been witnessing cold breezes. “The next 48 hours would be severe,” they said.
Weather experts said the severity of the weather condition was being felt, as the maximum temperature has fallen. In Patna the maximum temperature on
Wednesday fell by 4.7°C. In other places, including Gaya, Bhagalpur and Purnia, the maximum temperature fell by 5°C.
The MET department has predicted further fall, by 1-3°C, during night in next two days with most of the districts having cloudy weather condition.
The Patna district administration, as a precautionary measure, has advanced the time of opening of schools from 8 am to 9 pm. However, some schools, including Loyola High School, have announced early winter vacation.
Bro. Sudhakar Reddy S.G, principal, Loyola High School, said, “The district administration had already announced that the schools will begin from 9 am, besides seeing the cold wave condition, the management has decided to start the winter vacation from Thursday.”
