32 new Covid cases take J’khand tally to 458, E Singhbhum reports 30

In Hazaribag, five migrant workers, who came from Mumbai and Baroda, also test positive for the virus

JAMSHEDPUR:Jharkhand reported 32 new Covid-19 cases from different districts across the state in last 24 hours taking the total count of cases to 458. While maximum six cases were reported from Gumla, five cases were found in Hazaribag district in the last 24 hours.

Besides, East Singhbhum reported three positive cases while West Singhbhum one and two each from Dhanbad and Khunti and another positive case was detected in Lohardaga. In Hazaribag, five migrant workers, who came from Mumbai and Baroda, also tested positive for the respirator­y disease.

“They had been staying at a government quarantine centre at Silwar locality in the city. The five patients will now be shifted to Covid-19 ward at Hazaribag Medical College and Hospital (HMCH),” said a senior district official.

Three more migrants tested positive in Jamshedpur and one other in West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand on Wednesday evening, taking the total number of Covid-19 positive cases to 50 in the three districts of Kolhan Division as one patient from Chakulia recovered and was discharged Wednesday morning in Jamshedpur, officials said.

“Three more persons have tested positive in the city on Wednesday evening. All the three migrants were under institutio­nal quarantine at Sidhgora Profession­al College. They had returned to the city from Maharashtr­a. We have started contact tracing and detecting their travel history,” Ravishanka­r Shukla, East Singhbhum deputy commission­er (DC), said.

As per available informatio­n, one of the three patients hailed from Jugsalai locality while two others are residents of Jemco and Mango localities of the city.

This has taken the total number of Covid-19 cases in East Singhbhum district to 30 so far after one such patient – a Chakulia-based girl returning from Kolkata who tested positive on May 22 – was declared cured and released today.

Another migrant also tested positive from Chakradhar­pur in West Singhbhum district this evening. He was quarantine­d at an Urdu School and was being shifted to Charadharp­ur Railway Hospital. A total of seven positive cases were detected in West Singhbhum during the past two days while one more was reported on Wednesday evening, taking the total number of cases to 15 as of now. All the eight patients are migrants with a travel history.

Another positive migrant worker from Kapali locality of Seraikela-Kharsawan district was reported late on Tuesday night, taking the tally in the district to 5. District DC A Dode said the man had a travel history and was at TMH in Jamshedpur. “All his family members have been kept at a quarantine centre and their swab samples have been sent for testing,” said Dode.

CONSTABLE DIES INSIDE JAMSHEDPUR COURT

A constable Bhuvneswar Mahato posted at court lock-up duty here in Jamshedpur district and session court died under mysterious condition on Wednesday. He collapsed on duty and died on the court premises. His swab samples have been sent for Covid-19 test.
