Pentagon official quits; Biden takes a dig at Trump
WASHINGTON: The US defence department’s deputy inspector general has resigned, more than a month after President Donald Trump removed him as the Pentagon’s acting inspector general, who was to also oversee the government’s $2.3 trillion coronavirus response.
Glenn Fine’s resignation comes after the Trump administration has removed four government inspectors general, who seek to root out government waste, fraud and abuse, in recent weeks. Most recently the State Department’s inspector general, Steve Linick was fired.
Fine had been performing the duties of the Pentagon’s lead inspector general when he was removed in early April and reverted to being the No. 2 official in the inspector general’s office.
PENCE PRESS SECY BACK AFTER RECOVERY
US vice-president Mike Pence’s press secretary Katie Miller has joined work after recovering from the coronavirus, she said on
Twitter. Miller, who was among the three White House staff members to test positive, said she was back at work and thanked the medical fraternity and her family for supporting her during the illness. “Back at work today after three NEGATIVE COVID tests. Thank you to all my amazing doctors and everyone who reached out with support,” she tweeted.
BIDEN KNOCKS TRUMP FOR SHUNNING MASKS
Joe Biden has said that wearing a mask in public is a sign of leadership and called President Donald
Trump a “fool” who was “stoking deaths” for suggesting otherwise.
The presumptive Democratic presidential nominee’s comments came a day after he wore a black face mask while making his first public appearance in more than two months. Trump later retweeted a post that appeared to make fun of a photo of Biden in his mask, though he later said he didn’t mean to be critical.
In an interview with CNN, Biden responded, “He’s a fool, an absolute fool, to talk that way.”
“He’s supposed to lead by example,” Biden said.
