ARA:The local agriculture department has recommended the cancellation of registration of 22 farmers, including 11 women, for three years for burning crop residues commonly known as ‘parali’. This is probably the biggest ever action taken against such offenders in Bhojpur district.

All the farmers are residents of different panchayats under Tarari block.

On direction of Bhojpur DM on Wednesday, the local agriculture department raided different places under Tarari block and listed the name of farmers against whom there was evidence of burning the crop residues. The agriculture department has listed five farmers of Bhakura and Karath panchayat each, three of Moap Khurd, six of Shankardih, two of Tarari and one of Barkagaon panchayat.

The local agriculture department recommended cancellation of registration of these 22 farmers for three years on portal of the state agriculture department. If their registration gets cancelled, they would not be able to enjoy agricultural benefits by the government, like grant for seeds, agriculture equipment, etc.

Bhojpur DM Roshan Kushwaha said that the recommendation came as the act has been banned by the agriculture department.

The chief minister and agriculture department have made it very clear to stop this process of residue burning that causes environmental issue.

Meanwhile, as it was reported here on Monday, hundreds of bats were found dead in Tarari. Even though no official is ready to say anything on record regarding the coincidence between these two incidents, but while requesting anonymity, a doctor of animal husbandry department said that burning of crop residues might be the reason behind the death of bats.

“I can’t comment on the reason behind the deaths. The doctors of animal husbandry department took swab of dead bats for test. Let the test reports come”, the DM said.
