As the number of Acute encephalitis syndrome (AES) cases rise in the state, the district magistrate of Muzaffarpur Chandrashekhar Singh called a meeting of top district level officials along with health officers and authorities of Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) to review the preparedness on Thursday.

Seven children were taken to different hospitals in last 36 hours with complains of high temperature, convulsion, hypoglycaemia and other symptoms of AES.

Since January this year, altogether 37 AES cases have been reported so far, of which, six succumbed to the disease. However, 23 of them have been discharged after being cured. Rest of them are still undergoing treatment at SKMCH.

DM Singh, after reviewing the situation, directed the chief medical officer officer and civil surgeon of the district Dr SP Singh to prepare a list of children below 10 years across the district. “It has been decided in the meeting to distribute special food packets, full with nutrients, among the malnourished children. These packets would also be given to the AES affected kids after getting discharged from the hospital,” he said. “All those 23 children, who have been discharged from the hospitals, would also be covered under the scheme.

The DM said that the medical staff, including the in charges of all primary health centres, have been put on high alert to meet any adverse condition.

Meanwhile, the secretary of the state public relation department Anupam Kumar announced the extension of the range of social economic survey to all blocks of the distric.
