Jobless after lockdown, man kills self in Almora

HALDWANI: A 28-year old man allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison at his home in Almora district on Friday, said police.

Arun Kumar Verma, inspector at city police station Almora said he worked in a restaurant in Nainital.

He had lost his job due to lockdown and that prima facie seems to be the reason why he took the extreme step

Verma said the man, a resident of Hawalbag area in Almora district, worked in a restaurant in Khairna area of Nainital district.

Police said his family members told them that he was in the house for two months after the restaurant closed during the lockdown. Police quoted his family members as saying that he was upset over not having employment.

Verma said the person allegedly tried to commit suicide by consuming poison on Thursday

The incident came to light when his family members called him for dinner. But found him lying unconsciou­s. They rushed him to a nearby government hospital where he died on Friday morning during treatment

Verma said is the body has been sent for post-mortem and investigat­ion is on in the case. “The result of the post-mortem examinatio­n will reveal the exact cause of his death,” the officer said.
