Six persons killed in separate incidents across state, 3 held

PATNA: Altogether six people, including a home guard jawan and an RJD activist, were killed in separate incidents across the state in last 24 hours.

While two Mahadalits men was killed in rural Patna, three deaths reported from Begusarai and one from Madhepura district.

According to the reports reaching the police headquarte­rs, a home guard was shot dead in Begusarai when he tried to stop three bike-borne men, the police said on Saturday.

The incident happened at Panhas Chowk in Lohianagar police outpost area on Friday mid-night. The jawan, identified as Rajbardhan Ranjan (26), who was with a patrolling vehicle asked the accused to stop, following which they opened fire. He died on the spot.

The accused immediatel­y fled from the spot but arrested later, said Begusarai SP Awakash Kumar. Ranjan, a resident of Bichkhanna Manjhaul village, was posted at Lohianagar police outpost.

In another incident, Makshood Mahto and his wife Pramila were shot at near Samsa villagae under Naokothi police station area on Friday night.

The assailants intercepte­d and opened fire at them from pointblank range causing grievous injuries. Pramila succumbed to her injury on way to Begusarai sadar hospital. SHO of Naokothi police station Santosh Kumar said that Mahto has been admitted to Sadar hospital.

In Dandari village, miscreants gunned down a woman identified as Rita Devi, 40, at Hardia village while injured another one.

Reports from rural Patna, two mahadalits identified as Deobrat Manjhi and Soldier Manjhi were beaten to death on Saturday morning. Both the deceased were residents of Mokama Tal area falling under Ghoswari police station.

Police said that old enmity is said to be the reason behind the double murder.

The bodies bore external injuries, which suggested that they were killed somewhere else and their bodies were dumped on the spot to mislead the police.

In another incident, an RJD activist and former sarapanch of Chousa block Niwas Chandra Yadav was shot dead by unidentifi­ed criminals at Laualagam village on late Friday.

Police said the assailants attacked Yadav when he was sitting outside his house around 9.30 pm. An FSL team collected evidences from the spot from where Yadav’s body was recovered.

The call details of his mobile phone are being obtained to trace the killers, the police added.

The deceased’s kin lodged a complaint against unidentifi­ed persons in connection with the incident.
