HARIDWAR : Patanjali Ayurved’s immunity boosting Coronil ayurvedic drug will soon be available for sale across the country, the company’s founder, Baba Ramdev, said on Wednesday, announcing the resolution of issues with the government over the launch of the product that Patanjali had initially billed as a cure for the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

The ministry of ayurveda, yoga and naturopathy, unani, siddha and homoeopathy (AYUSH) has allowed Coronil to be marketed as a “Covid-19 management drug,” Ramdev said at a press conference in Haridwar, where Patanjali Ayurved is based.

The Union ministry confirmed that Patanjali can sell the product but not as a cure for Covid-19.

“AYUSH Ministry has only given permission to sell this particular formulation as immunity booster and not as a medicinal cure for Covid-19,” it said.

RAMDEV SAYS PATANJALI HAS FOLLOWED EVERY NORM REQUIRED AND THAT THE CORONIL AYURVEDIC DRUG WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR SALE IN THE COUNTRY SOON

“All issues with the AYUSH department have been resolved and our ayurvedic drug has been labelled a Covid-19 management drug. This is appropriate and proves that Patanjali has done nothing wrong but followed all due legal processes,” the yoga guru said. “Our Covid-19 immunity boosters are solely abstract and compounds of ayurvedic herbs like Giloy, Tulsi, Ashwagandha and have been effective during the treatment of coronavirus patients. Soon, this Covid-19 immunity booster kit will be available across the country,” said Ramdev.

Patanjali Ayurved in June launched the Coronil tablet and Swasari vati medicine that it claimed would cure Covid-19. The maker of herbal medicines and consumer products also said that the two ayurveda-based medicines had delivered 100% positive results during clinical trials on Covid-19 patients except those on life-support systems.

The AYUSH ministry said it was unaware of Patanjali Ayurved’s claims, sought a report from the company about the composition, testing and other data on the drugs and asked the company to “stop advertising/publicising” the drugs until the ministry examined its claims.

From the license seeking process to clinical trials, scientific documentation to submission of all requisite documents pre- and post-trials, Patanjali followed every norm it was required to, Ramdev said.
