SUPAUL: A paralytic man and his wife were allegedly burnt alive over land dispute in Chakla Nirmali village under sadar police station of Supaul district on Tuesday night.

The victims identified as Ramchandra Mukhiya, 45, and his wife Sunaina Devi, 40, were sleeping in their house when it was set afire.

Supaul superintendent of police Manoj Kumar said, “A team of forensic science laboratory (FSL) has been summoned to probe the matter and a medical board will conduct autopsy of the couple.”

“Ramchandra Mukhiya and his brother Ramlakhan Mukhiya had purchased a piece of land in the village and later this became a bone of contention between the two brothers,” police said.

“My uncle wanted to usurp the land and threatened my father of dire consequences if the land was not transferred to his name,” victim’s daughter Rani Kumari said. She alleged that when her father did not transfer the land, her uncle killed her parents.

The victims have two daughters, while one of them lives with her relative in the village, the other lives with her aunt. “We could not stay with our parents due to our uncle and aunt who used to intimidate us,” she said.

“Police have lodged an FIR on the basis of the complaint of the victim’s relative Abhinandan Kumar under section 302 (murder) of the IPC,” Station house officer (SHO) of sadar police station Dina Nath Mandal said.

Police have detained Ramchandra’s brother Ramlakhan Mukhiya and his wife in this connection and further interrogation is going on.
