Class 10 student, two teachers test +ve in Raj after board exams
357 students and 30 teachers put under home quarantine
KOTA: A Class 10 student, who appeared for the Rajasthan Board of Secondary Examination (RBSE) on June 29 and 30, and two government school teachers have tested positive for coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in Kota district, a senior official of the health department said on Wednesday.
The 17-year-old girl student tested positive on Tuesday. Her sample was collected for testing after her younger sister tested positive for the virus infection on June 27 and shifted to the Covid hospital in the district.
“After the student’s report, 357 students, who also appeared for the Class 10 exam at the examination centre, and 30 teachers, who were on invigilation duty, have been sent to home quarantine,” said Dr BS Tanwar, the chief medical and health officer of Kota.
At another examination centre for Class 12 in the district, two teachers, one of them with symptoms, also tested positive, Tanwar said. The teachers, one of them an invigilator and the other the centre superintendent, were on duty in a private school.
After that 23 other teachers and 123 students of the centre have been sent to home quarantine. “We have taken samples of the teachers and students for testing. The reports are awaited,” the CMHO added.
The RBSE examinations began across 6,209 centres in the state on June 18. Students were asked to report at the centre at least an hour before the start of examination for screening and sanitization. The centres were disinfected before the examinations. The board added 524 new centres to follow social distancing during the examinations and also increased the number of invigilators by 40%. Class 10 examinations were held on June 29 and 30, while Class 12 papers were conducted between June 18 and June 30.
Kota district reported 676 Covid-19 patients until June 30; out of which 110 are active, according to the health department data.
VIRUS TALLY 18,092
With 78 new Covid-19 cases reported on Wednesday, Rajasthan’s tally went up to 18,092. No death was reported in the state in the last 12 hours, as per the health department.
The maximum cases were reported from Alwar district, which has seen a continual rise in cases in the past few weeks.
The district reported 29 cases on Wednesday, taking the total cases in the district to 554.
Jaipur district has seen a continuous rise with 25 fresh cases reported. The total cases in the district are 3,343. Bharatpur and Dausa reported one case each.
PATIENT’S SUICIDE
The Jan Swasthya Abhiyan, a civil society organization working in the health sector, has written to the chief minister seeking a fair investigation into the case, in which a Covid patient allegedly died by suicide at a private hospital.
