CM HEMANT SOREN HAD REQUESTED RAILWAY MINISTER PIYUSH GOYAL ON THURSDAY TO CANCEL TRAINS COMING TO JHARKHAND FROM BIHAR

JAMSHEDPUR: Two trains from Bihar to Jharkhand have been cancelled from July 13 onwards and samples of 110 passengers from Danapur-Tatanagar Superfast Express were sent for Covid-19 testing here in Jamshedpur on Friday.

Jharkhand chief minister (CM) Hemant Soren had requested Railway minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday to cancel trains coming to Jharkhand from Bihar, observing that infected passengers were adding to the spread of infection and the recent rapid spike in the number of the cases in the state.

Stopping trains from Bihar is imperative to contain spread of coronavirus in Jharkhand, CM Soren had written in his letter to Goyal.

“As per request received from the Government of Jharkhand, it has been decided to fully cancel 08183/08184 Tatanagar-Danapur-Tatanagar

Special with effect from July 13 till further advice. In addition to that, 02366/02365 Ranchi-Patna-Ranchi Special will remain partially cancelled between Ranchi-GayaRanchi with effect from July 13 till further advice,” a South Eastern Railway (SER) press statement said on Friday, adding that the ticket amount would be refunded automatically.

Jamshedpur district administration, meanwhile, collected and sent samples of 110 passengers coming to the city from Bihar by the Danapur-Tatanagar Superfast Express for Covid-19 testing here on Friday. A total of 240 other passengers travelling with their families by the same train were, however, sent to home quarantine after thermal scanning at Tatanagar station on Thursday. The 110 passengers travelling alone were taken to a government quarantine center at Sidhgora Professional College by 10 minibuses Thursday.

Jamshedpur (East Singhbhum) district – which had seen 93 persons testing positive on July 7 and 8 – has at least two instances where 25 persons returning from Bihar tested positive during the past week. A couple from Bagbera Naya Basti had returned from Ara (Bihar) after attending a wedding ceremony. They had tested positive on July 2, infecting 15 others.

Besides, 10 members of a family in Telco Premnagar had tested positive in Jamshedpur on July 6 after returning from a wedding ceremony in Buxar (Bihar) on July 4.
