Vegetable markets shut in Jamshedpur till Sunday; industry inspections to continue for 2 days
JAMSHEDPUR: All vegetable markets across Jamshedpur will remain closed on Saturday and Sunday while district administration will undertake a comprehensive inspection of all factory premises, industrial units and companies to contain the spread of coronavirus infection the city, officials said here on Friday.
The emergency measures came as Jamshedpur reported another 14 cases on Friday, taking the district tally to 639 cases. The district now has 70 active containment zones.
“We will undertake extensive sanitization exercise in all the vegetable markets falling under Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC), Mango Municipal Corporation (MNAC) and Jugsalai Nagar Panchayat (JNP) from 3pm on Saturday to 7pm on Sunday. We will also conduct detailed inspection of all the factories, industrial units and companies in the city during next two days in view of the rapidly rising number of cases at different companies here,” Ravishankar Shukla, deputy commissioner (DC), said.
The inspection teams will be led by ADC (land and revenue), ADM (law and order), factory inspector, incident commanders and other administrative and police officials. The teams will examine the availability of safety measures, inspect common facilities, compliance of social distancing, contact-tracing and other Covid-19 protocols in industrial units.
The vegetable markets henceforth will be closed on every weekend and sanitized regularly. Administration has also banned street food and such joints and called upon the citizens to opt for home delivery and online purchases as much as possible.
District factory inspector has ordered closure of Tata Pigment till further order.
The company has so far reported 42 cases while Tata Tubes Division has reported six of its employees and eight of their relatives to be positive and Tata Steel Long Products has reported two positive cases.
Of the 14 persons testing positive till Friday evening, four have travel history of Gujarat, one came from Patna, one from Ranchi and one from Hyderabad.
The other 10 positive patients have no travel history and five of the 14 positive patients hailed from Mango, two each from Sakchi, Sundernagar and Baridih while one each from Kadma, Sidhgora and Birsanagar.
Meanwhile, the district administration has notified Kerala Samajam Model School in Cable town and Motilal Nehru Public Schools in the city as camp jails for lodging violators of Covid-19 protocols.
Police arrested 136 such violators till Thursday night who were later released on bail.
