LUCKNOW : The pass percentage in the ICSE (class 10) examination improved nationally and in Uttar Pradesh this time in comparison to last year while it remained almost the same for the ISC (class 12) students in the state but went up marginally countrywide, according to figures available with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE).

As many as 99.33% students passed ICSE and 96.82% passed ISC examination this year nationally. CISCE, which announced the results for class
10 and 12 exams on Friday, decided against bringing out a merit list this year in view of “exceptional circumstances”, an official said.
The board had to cancel its pending exams in view of the Covid-19 outbreak and the result was calculated on the basis of an alternative assessment scheme.
Aashrita Dass, principal of La Martiniere Girls’ College, Lucknow, said, “For students, I feel bad that those who excelled in the examination are bereft of merit-ranking. But as principal, it does not matter much, as our students have done really well
in the examination.”

“This year, CISCE has not declared the merit list for either the ICSE or ISC Year 2020 examinations, given the exceptional circumstances due to outbreak of pandemic Covid 19 as several examinations were not conducted from March 19 onward and average marks were awarded to students,” said Gerry Arathoon, chief executive and secretary of the council.
Last year’s pass percentage in ICSE was 98.54% and in ISC it was 96.52%. This year, a total of 2,07,902 students appeared in the ICSE exams. Out of them, 2,06,525 candidates were successful with a pass percentage of 99.33%.
