DHANBAD: The Dhanbad Congress committee on Thursday suspended district working president Ravindra Verma from primary membership of the party on recommendation of the party’s disciplinary committee.

Disciplinary Committee chairman Suresh Chandra Jha said since Ravindra Verma did not reply to show cause notice within 15 days , committee suspended him from party.

“Rather than raising the issue in a party meeting, Verma opposed senior party leader and Jharkhand minister Alamgir Alam’s programme at a public platform and launched a campaign in social media”, he said.

Jha said under Section 19 of AICC constitution, disciplinary committee has authority to take action. Even in past several senior leaders had been suspended. Besides Jha, Ramprit Yadav, Sakil Ahmed are also the members of the committee.

However, Verma challenged authority of Jha for suspending a working president from party. “It’s seems to be a joke. The disciplinary committee has no authority to show cause working president. Only state committee has the power,” said Ravindra Verma.

Verma said he has informed state party president Rameswar Oraon and working president Keshav Mahto Kamlesh about the incident and demanded proper probe.

“It all has been done under conspiracy of some senior leaders in the district”, he said.

Dhanbad district Congress committee has one president Brajendra Prasad Singh and two working presidents Ravindra Verma and Shankar Prajapati.

District president Brajendra Prasad Singh said he had no role in suspension of Ravindra Verma. Only Suresh Chandra Jha would be able to give the reason of suspension,” he said.

Factional feud had been simmering in district Congress for last few months as both the groups were organizing programmes separately. A senior leader of the party said dispute intensified two months ago when working president slapped show cause notice to president Brajendra Prasad Singh. Though later Verma had denied.
