‘R-Day violence a blot on country, farm laws won’t be repealed’
HARIDWAR: Bharatiya Janata Party national spokesperson and former Union minister Shahnawaz Hussain said on Thursday that the violence at Red Fort during the farmers’ tractor rally on the Republic Day was a blot on Indian history, alleging that it was sponsored and pre-planned on the lines of Washington Capitol Hill vandalism.
Before paying obeisance at Piran Kaliyar dargah in Haridwar, Hussain claimed that a propaganda is being run to malign the image of the government at international level.
“Be it pop star Rihanna or Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi, without trying to know and understand the minutes of the three agricultural laws, they are only trying to create sensationalism through social media, hashtags and misinformation,” he said, adding that parliament had passed the agricultural legislations after discussions and debate.
“There have been 11 rounds of talks between the government and farmers’ representatives. We are open to suggestions on certain provisions, but the laws can’t be repealed,” he said.
“The government has given assurance on minimum support price. The Centre even offered to delay these laws by one and a half years,” said Hussain, a member of the Bihar legislative council. Hussain said the farmers’ agitation is backed by the Congress and Communists.
Congress state chief Pritam Singh has said the farmers are fighting for their rights and his party will continue to support their protest against the three farm laws.
