Six shots of life
There’s negativity all around but we will focus on the positivity. Our editor picks shots of life that bring a smile.
ONE FOR THE LOCAL TRAINS
Mumbai’s local train network is the lifeline of the city, helping millions of commuters and keeping the city running. In a picture which has gone viral, a passenger can be seen showing his gratitude to the rail network by bowing, with his forehead touching, to a train standing at the platform.
AN ECO-CONSCIOUS INVENTION
For India to become an environment-friendly nation, it has to deal with the mammoth task of managing menstrual waste efficiently. With this in mind, Ajinkya Dahiya, an engineering graduate, has created a machine — Padcare — to help in the safe disposal of sanitary napkins. It has a shredder, disinfection and segregation compartments to remove odour, disinfect, disintegrate, and decolour waste.
KINDNESS COSTS NOTHING
Model Bella Hadid took to Instagram to encourage her fans to be kind. The image she posted had a message to “be kind always” and required no additional caption. Even when someone doesn’t deserve kindness, we should be compassionate towards them because we never know what hardships they are facing. Bella, we couldn’t agree more!
IN THE PURSUIT OF PASSION
Our reader, Bipan Gakhar, from Gurugram, picked up the paint brush after 45 years amid the pandemic. He tells us, “At first, I was nervous, but seeing the painting I was satisfied with the outcome. Since then, I have not looked back.” We hope he continues to create and to fuel his passion.
DREAM ON!
Actor Dia Mirza gave a shot of motivation to her followers with an Instagram post, captioned with the immortal lines of musician John Lennon: ”You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one. I hope someday you’ll join us. And the world will live as one.” We all wish the world to be more equal and inclusive for all dreamers to flourish.
THE LESSONS IN SILENCE
Silence is crucial to the great art of conversation. Sharing a lovely monochrome picture of herself immersed in thought, actor Alia Bhatt quoted author Virginia Woolf: “’I want to write a novel about silence’ he said; ‘the things people don’t say’.” Yes Alia, silence has a lot to say if only we are ready to listen.
