Finance min to focus on generating livelihood

RANCHI: The Hemant Soren government in Jharkhand was giving final touches to the state budget, which will be “all about livelihood”, for financial year 2021-22 to be presented by planning and finance minister Rameshwar Oraon on March 3.

It will be the second budget of the JMM-led coalition government in Jharkhand. As per indication­s, the budget would lay stress on employment generation, agricultur­e and animal husbandry, rural developmen­t and livelihood promotion, besides revenue earnings.

Finance minister Rameshwar Oraon said the budget will be people-centric and will aim at creating employment.

Though Oraon did not divulge any further detail, he said, “The budget will be all about lives and livelihood,” indicating a growthorie­nted budget aiming at boosting revenue earnings, that took a beat in the pandemic due to halt in industrial and commercial activities during the Covid-19triggere­d lockdown.

The budget will revolve generating employment and earnings, so that people could spend and improve upon their quality of life, the minister said.

As per officials in the know of things, the budget would focus on creating more rural jobs and self-employment in urban Jharkhand. Emphasis would be laid on education and health serviaroun­d ces, along with strengthen­ing schemes related to public services in the budget. It was also being speculated that a bunch of schemes are likely to be announced by the state government.

In the last fiscal, Oraon had presented a ₹86,370 crore budget outlay. However, it is likely to go up in the budget estimate of financial year 2021-22.

The government has received several suggestion­s from different organisati­ons, including chambers, business and commercial ones, during budget preparatio­ns. Those who contribute­d said attempts were made in preparing estimates by incorporat­ing valuable inputs.
