RANCHI: Jharkhand, which is all set to launch the second phase of mass Covid-19 vaccination drive on Monday, has increased the number of vaccination centres across the state at 231 government centres and 10 private hospitals for day one.

Besides health care workers and frontline workers, an estimated 50-60 lakh citizens aged 60 years and above, and those aged 45 years and above with comorbidities, are to be vaccinated in the second phase beginning March 1.

In view of the large number of people to be inoculated in this phase, the state health department is working on further increasing Covid-19 vaccination centres (CVCs), both at government and private levels. It is in the process to rope in private hospitals, which are empanelled either under Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) or under the central government health scheme (CGHS) or under any health insurance scheme of the state government, in the mass vaccination exercise.

While government CVCs will inoculate people for free, a maximum charge of ₹250 per dose has been fixed for private hospitals.

Till the time of filing this report, the state health department was working on to finalise the total number of CVCs to be made functional on day one of the second phase.

“We are waiting for final updates from districts, as we have to send the entire plan to the Centre. However, 231 government centres and 10 private hospitals--two each in Ranchi, East Singhbhum, Hazaribagh and

Bokaro and one each in Deoghar and Dhanbad--have been finalised to start the inoculation drive on day one,” said a senior official of the health department.

“Jharkhand is expected to receive a fresh consignment of around 5.5 lakh doses of Covishield vaccine of Pune-based Serum Institute of India by March 9,” the official said.

In state capital Ranchi, two private hospitals--Medica and Raj Hospital--have consented to start vaccination drive Monday.

People, who are eligible for vaccination in second phase, can register online or on-the-spot for availing the vaccine. For online registration, people are required to use the government’s COWIN app, a digital platform for realtime monitoring of Covid-19 vaccine delivery, which has been upgraded to a new version, COWIN 2.0.

Provision has been made for the on-the-spot registration at vaccination centres also.

Ten private hospitals--two each in Ranchi, East Singhbhum, Hazaribagh and Bokaro and one each in Deoghar and Dhanbad-have been finalised to start inoculation drive on day one.
