DHANBAD: The Dumka police on Sunday claimed to have busted an inter-district motorcycle lifter gang with the arrest of four of its members and recovery of 18 stole two-wheelers.

Dumka superintendent of police (SP) Ambar Lakra said 11 bikes were found hidden in houses while seven were seized from people who had purchased the stolen two-wheelers from the lifter gang at throwaway prices at a village under Paljori block in Deoghar district.

“Eight out of 18 motorcycles have been identified and remaining 10 are being investigated. Four bikes were stolen from Dhanbad, Dumka, Giridih, Jamtara districts of Jharkhand, apart from Siuri of West Bengal,” said the SP. Among the four arrested persons, three belong to Deoghar district, while one is from Dumka district, he said.

According to the police, some people of Bengal and Jharkhand were operating for the gang in select districts of both the states. After stealing the bikes, the lifters sell them.

Earlier on February 18, a motorcycle was stolen from

Dumka Shivpahadi, which led the police to bust the gang.

During investigation into the theft, police arrested one Aditya Sah alias Kishan, a resident Deoghar.

On his revelation, police conducted raids in Kumgarha village of Deoghar’s Paljori block and arrested one Ishataque Ansari, his brother Mustaque Ansari and Avinash Hembram from Nayadih area and recovered 11 stolen motorcycles from their houses, the SP said.

Seven bikes were recovered from people they were sold to, town police station officer in-charge Devbrato Poddar said.
