DHANBAD: Those police officers, who were transferred from Bokaro district years ago but were still illegally occupying Bokaro Steel Limited (BSL) official quarters, will be asked vacate the premises within 15 days, officials said on Monday.

“After getting the quarters vacated, they will be allotted to new staff,” Bokaro superintendent of police (SP) Chandan Kumar Jha said.

The district police department requested to deploy a magistrate for the purpose. In the first phase, a list containing names of 84 such police officers was prepared, officials said.

In the past, BSL allotted its 350 quarters to the district police department.

Since over hundred police officers posted in the district are currently waiting for accommodation, it was decided to get the quarters vacated by officers who were transferred, people familiar with the matter said.

The Bokaro SP said since the BSL quarters allotted to the police department were in dilapidated condition, they would demand new accommodations.

In Bokaro, not only police officials but also politicians , people’s representatives, and other government officials were allegedly occupying the quarters, compelling BSL management to launch a drive to get the illegally occupied quarters vacated.

A senior police officer in Bokaro, who is waiting for allotment of an official quarter, said the police department was itself responsible for the crisis, as a no objection certificate was issued to transferred officers to vacate.
