Election code violation: Special court grants bail to Giridih MP
DHANBAD: A special court in Dhanbad on Monday granted bail to senior All Jharkhand Students’ Union (AJSU) party leader and Giridih MP Chandraprakash Choudhary in connection to a 12-year-old case related to election code violation, the politician’s lawyer said.
Choudhary’s lawyer Radheyshyam Goswami said the court of special judge Akhilesh Kumar Tiwary, after hearing the matter, granted bail to the MP on a personal bond of ₹5,000.
“Chandraprakash Choudhary is the first people’s representative to appear in the MP, MLA Special Court set up in Dhanbad,” said Goswami.
The matter goes back to the 2009 Lok Sabha elections when candidates of different national and regional political parties put up party flags on government buildings and public places in violation of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in Hazaribagh.
Acting upon it, the then Hazaribagh sadar block agriculture officer lodged an FIR with Sadar police against Chandraprakash Choudhary, BJP candidate Yashwant Sinha, CPI candidate Bhubneswar Mehta, JVM candidate Shivlal Mahto, and Samajwadi Party candidate Digamber Kumar Mehta.
After given bail on Monday, Choudhary said he had got a summon from the special court over allegation of MCC violation
in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections. “I appeared in court Monday and was given bail by the honourable special court,” he said.
