: Worried over rising incidents of attacks on hospital staff by angry family members of Covid patients, a delegation of Indian Medical Association’s (IMA) local unit on Tuesday called upon district magistrate and demanded adequate security for the staff so that they could work fearlessly in a conducive atmosphere.

The delegation led by IMA district unit president Dr Anil Kapoor met district magistrate K Balaji and shared their concern and said “anger was brewing against the medical staff and it could lead to some unpleasant issues in hospitals”.

Dr Kapoor claimed that the angry family members of Covid patients had attacked staff of at least 5 hospitals after death of patients or blaming them for being careless in providing oxygen to their patients.

To note, angry family members of patients went on rampage in Nutema Hospital after death of 5 patients allegedly due to lack of medical oxygen. District magistrate had constituted a two-member committee to investigate the matter. Similarly, staff in Anand, Ajay and Apsnova hospitals also faced the wrath of patients’ family members in the past two weeks.

The delegation also raised the issue of scarcity of oxygen supply in hospitals and demanded to ensure supply as per the requirement.

They also suggested to make separate arrangements for supply of oxygen to hospitals and individuals who need the life saving gas for treatment of their patients in home isolation. The delegation said district magistrate assured of resolving their problems soon.

THE DELEGATION ALSO RAISED THE ISSUE OF SCARCITY OF OXYGEN SUPPLY IN HOSPITALS AND DEMANDED TO ENSURE SUPPLY AS PER REQUIREMENT
