MUSSOORIE: Ruskin Bond, the renowned children’s author from Mussoorie, is now set to entertain his readers with Brand Ruskin Bond, a made in India merchandis­e created to deliver the experience of engaging with the whimsical and delightful world portrayed in his books.

Supporting the vocal for local movement in the country, Ruskin Bond’s great-grandson Sidharth Bond, the brainchild of the initiative, said, “Several fans of Ruskin Bond wanted to connect with him in some way so we thought of the collectibl­e merchandis­e which would serve as bonding with the author and his fans.”

We have begun this journey in hope of engraving the stories and memorable characters in the form of treasured keepsakes. We want to reach out to not only his fans but also anyone who appreciate­s good design and our sincere sentiment, added Sidharth.

“Right now, we are offering a plethora of products, ranging from stationery to lifestyle, all inspired by the enormous body of work of the author; their essence translated into enchanting collectabl­es that one can cherish for a lifetime,” said Himani Sahu, co-founder of the Ruskin Bond brand.

The warmth of reading a cherished book, that too, of an author that masterfull­y takes one down the memory lane, is infused into all the products at the collection.

“We want to evoke the feeling of comfort and warmth and inspire people through this journey,” Sahu said.

According to the founders of the brand, the vision of this endeavour also upholds a respect to the natural world. Through his writings, Ruskin Bond has always professed his love for nature which has been a recurrent theme in many of his stories.

Every product at Ruskin Bond Collection is produced with minimal wastage and eco-friendly materials, the tapestries carry the best quotes from the legendary author, said Sidharth.

Ruskin Bond, who is elated at this effort, said, “Through 50s, 60s and 70s, although I wrote prolifical­ly, many of my readers may have missed the opportunit­y to directly connect with me. However, this is about to change with our new endeavour.”

He extended all his support to this venture and hoped that people would like the products.

Ruskin Bond’s first novel, the Room on the Roof, received the John Llewellyn Rhys Prize in 1957.

He was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1992 for Our Trees Still Grow in Dehra, his novel in English. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1999 and the Padma Bhushan in 2014.
