At Tokyo, a first for Indian women

SECOND IN HAND

Shooter Avani Lekhara scripted history as she claimed her second medal at the Tokyo Paralympic­s, becoming the first Indian woman to win two medals in the same edition of the Games. “I could have done better,” she said.

FIERCE FINAL

The 19-year-old who had earlier won the gold medal in R-2 women’s 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1, claimed a bronze medal in R8 50m rifle 3P SH1 event. She totalled 445.9 to finish ahead of Ukraine’s Iryna Shchetnik.

ANOTHER SILVER

On Friday, 18-year-old Praveen Kumar also clinched the silver medal in the men’s high jump T64 event of the Paralympic­s. He set a an Asian record with a 2.07m jump to finish behind Great Britain’s Jonathan Broom-Edwards.
