Three drown in Ganga amid rain, SDRF starts search operations
THE SDRF TEAM STARTED A SEARCH OPERATION BUT FOUND NO TRACES OF THE THREE MISSING PERSONS TILL SUNDAY EVENING
DEHRADUN: Amid heavy rains in Uttarakhand since last few days, three people, including two technocrats of a Noidabased company, drowned in Ganga in two separate incidents in Rishikesh on Sunday.
The state disaster response force (SDRF) started a search operation but found no traces of the three missing persons till Sunday evening.
Sub-inspector Kavindra Sajwan, SDRF said in one of the incidents, two men, both aged 33, drowned in Ganga on Sunday. “Identified as Rahul Singh and Bhanumurti, they had come to Rishikesh as part of a ninemember delegation from a Noida-based company on Saturday. On Sunday around 8am, they reached Ram Jhula ghat where Singh went near Ganga to wash his hands when he suddenly slipped into the swollen river and got washed away,” said Sajwan. He added, “Bhanumurti jumped into the river to save him but he too got swept away by the strong current.”
“Our team searched them on rafts in Ganga for around 10 hours but failed to find them,” said Sajwan.
In the other incident, he said, a middle aged woman drowned in Ganga near Lakshman Jhula area in Ganga on Sunday afternoon.
“Her identity is yet to be ascertained but a search operation was initiated to find her too. Unfortunately, in both the incidents, SDRF men have failed to find any traces of the missing persons so far,” said Sajwan.
