The scale of a film has a huge impact on actors: Vyoma

ith the whole discussion of regional films attracting panIndia audience, it’s interestin­g to see someone from regional cinema step into Bollywood. Actor Vyoma Nandi, who has some successful Gujarati films to her credit, including Cash On Delivery (2017) and Luv Ni Love Storys (2020), recently featured in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2.

Ask if she experience­d a difference between the two industries and Nandi, who played Rajjo in the film, says, “The Gujarati film industry is growing fast, but it’s still a budding industry, whereas the Hindi film industry is establishe­d and globally known. So, the difference was quite prominent as far as the experience with filmmakers and technician­s was concerned.”

Commercial Bollywood films are known for their fat budgets and scale. Did the scale of her debut film have an impact on her? “Yes, definitely,” says the actor, adding, “I think I will always remember the first day I went on the set. Most of the actors were present and it was a grand set-up. That feeling is indescriba­ble. I felt an energy that I’d never experience­d before.”

Having experience­d working with big actors in a Bollywood film, does she have any suggestion­s for someone starting out? “After eight years of giving auditions, I’ve just taken a baby step into Hindi films, so I think it’s important to believe in yourself, trust your gut and keep working on your craft,” says the 28-year-* old, who wishes to play characters like Shruti Kakkar from Band Baaja Baaraat
