No fresh protests, but vigil tight in Agra zone

AGRA: No fresh protests were reported on Sunday against Agnipath, the new recruitmen­t scheme for the Indian armed forces, but there was no laxity in vigil in districts falling under Agra zone.

The maximum arrests were made in Aligarh district which was the worst affected during the anti-Agnipath protests on Friday last.

In all, 80 people were arrested in Aligarh district till Sunday. They included those arrested in connection with four FIRs, those booked for disturbing peace and tranquilli­ty and nine people running coaching centres.

The Agra police had also asked the coaching centres owners to close the institutio­ns and all coaching centres, mainly in New Agra area, continue to remain closed.

“Police force had taken control by 4 pm on Friday in affected areas of Tappal and since then no untoward incident has been reported. Peace continues since Saturday but yet vigil is being maintained in view of anti -social elements getting mixed up with protesting students,” said SSP Aligarh Kalanidhi Naithani while patrolling Aligarh on Sunday.

“We are communicat­ing with those in village. More than 60 have been arrested in connection with cases registered after violence on Friday and others have been booked under preventive clauses. In all, 80 people have been taken into custody in Aligarh district,” he said.

“During the investigat­ion, names of those running coaching centres had surfaced for disturbing peace in Aligarh and nine of them have been arrested. We have statements against them,” the SSP said..

Photos of those allegedly involved in Friday’s violence were released by Aligarh police on Saturday.

All the Station House Officers and Station Officers from police stations of Mathura district conducted foot patrolling on Sunday in their respective areas.

Seventy-five people suspected of involvemen­t in violence in Mathura were taken under preventive detention, informed SSP Mathura Dr Gaurav Grover on Saturday

“In all, five cases had been registered, including two in the highway police station and one each in Kosi, Naujheel and Baldev police stations of Mathura and 75 people have been detained as a preventive measure,” said Dr Grover.
