RENOWNED NEPHROLOGI­ST PASSES AWAY

DR SINHA WAS CREDITED AS THE 1ST NEPHROLOGI­ST OF BIHAR

PATNA: Padma Shree Dr Indu Bhushan Sinha, a former professor of medicine (nephrology) and head of nephrology, Patna Medical College Hospital, passed away at Patna’s Ruban Memorial Hospital after prolonged illness on Monday. He was 84.

He leaves behind his wife Kumudani Sinha, a retired professor, department of economics, Patna University, a son and a daughter.

Dr Sinha was credited as being the first nephrologi­st of Bihar and was a personal physician of Loknayak Jayaprakas­h Narayan, a socialist and political leader.

Dr Sinha, who graduated in general medicine from the Patna University in 1960, joined Bihar health services in 1961. He went for higher training in nephrology at the CMC, Vellore; AIIMS, New Delhi; Jaslok Hospital, Mumbai, and the Royal Liverpool Hospital, UK. The Indian Society of Nephrology had awarded him the lifetime achievemen­t award in 2019.

Condolence messages for Sinha poured in from all around. The Bihar unit of the Indian Medical Associatio­n will hold a condolence meeting on Tuesday, said its senior vicepresid­ent Dr Sunil Kumar.
