State feels the chill as mercury dips, Banka coldest at 10.5 °C
PATNA: Bihar witnessed a dip in mercury with Banka recording the lowest minimum temperature of 10.5 °C, said officials of Patna Meteorological Centre on Monday.
According to meteorologists, the dip in mercury is due to the cold westerlies coming from the hilly regions.
As per the daily weather bulletin, the average maximum temperature in the state hovered around 27°C to 29°C while the minimum average temperature hovered around 12°C to 14°C.
Banka remained the coldest place in the state with the lowest minimum temperature of 10.5°C, while Gaya recorded a minimum temperature of 10.7°C.
Bhagalpur recorded 11.2°C, Sitamarhi 11.6°C ,Begusarai 11.7°C, Nawada 12.4°C. Samastipur and Saharsa 12.5°C, and Khagaria 12.8°C, the bulletin stated.
Amit Kumar Sinha, meteorologist at Patna Meteorological Centre, said, “The maximum and minimum temperature in the state has declined by one or two degrees. As per current numerical model and weather analysis, westerly and north-westerly winds are prevailing in the state at the speed of 4 to 5 kmph.”
As per the 5-day weather forecast, shallow fog is likely at isolated places over West Champaran, East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, and Purnea during the next 48 hours.
Gradual fall in the minimum and maximum temperature is likely from Thursday, it further stated.
