State feels the chill as mercury dips, Banka coldest at 10.5 °C

PATNA: Bihar witnessed a dip in mercury with Banka recording the lowest minimum temperatur­e of 10.5 °C, said officials of Patna Meteorolog­ical Centre on Monday.

According to meteorolog­ists, the dip in mercury is due to the cold westerlies coming from the hilly regions.

As per the daily weather bulletin, the average maximum temperatur­e in the state hovered around 27°C to 29°C while the minimum average temperatur­e hovered around 12°C to 14°C.

Banka remained the coldest place in the state with the lowest minimum temperatur­e of 10.5°C, while Gaya recorded a minimum temperatur­e of 10.7°C.

Bhagalpur recorded 11.2°C, Sitamarhi 11.6°C ,Begusarai 11.7°C, Nawada 12.4°C. Samastipur and Saharsa 12.5°C, and Khagaria 12.8°C, the bulletin stated.

Amit Kumar Sinha, meteorolog­ist at Patna Meteorolog­ical Centre, said, “The maximum and minimum temperatur­e in the state has declined by one or two degrees. As per current numerical model and weather analysis, westerly and north-westerly winds are prevailing in the state at the speed of 4 to 5 kmph.”

As per the 5-day weather forecast, shallow fog is likely at isolated places over West Champaran, East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, and Purnea during the next 48 hours.

Gradual fall in the minimum and maximum temperatur­e is likely from Thursday, it further stated.
