Notorious Madhepura history sheeter held after police encounter

MADHEPURA: A former district board chairman of Madhepura in Bihar, who faces over three dozen criminal cases, was arrested along with his two accomplice­s after a brief exchange of fire on Thursday afternoon, police said.

Manoj Yadav’s wife Sunila Devi is currently a member of the district board and had unsuccessf­ully contested Alamnagar assembly seat in Madhepura district on a ticket of Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) in 2020.

Madhepura superinten­dent of police (SP) Rajesh Kumar said police the three were arrested after a brief encounter with police at Shekhpur Chaman village under Udakishung­anj police station limits. “Manoj Yadav and his two accomplice­s, Pramod Yadav and Sushil Yadav, have been booked for attack on police for the latest incident. There are over three dozen criminal cases pending against Manoj Yadav at various police stations in the district,” the officer said.

Police said they have seized one rifle, two countrymad­e pistols and a large number of live cartridges from their possession, adding that the three will be booked under the stringent Crime Control Act (CCA) to ensure a speedy trial.

Subdivisio­nal police officer (SDPO) Satish Kumar, who led the police team, said, “Acting on a tip-off, the police team challenged them at Shekhpur Chaman village. They started firing and the police team retaliated. After a brief exchange of fire, three criminals were arrested.”
